Hi Folks

After chasing the piece for 3 years - from the family the Harlanders gifted the piece to - I secured a most unusual piece of Harlander this week. It is a fully marked Harlander Bronze! It is 2 figures and stands 16 inches high and weighs 20 pounds!

I will post photos of the piece when I get a chance to take them.

Has anyone ever heard of another?

Folks

Has anyone else who collects Harlander pottery see how many Harlander wall clocks - have been out there lately?

There have been at least a dozen of these in the past year between e-bay, and the Ontario/Canadian antique shows.

I finally could not resist - and I picked up the attached example this week!

Anyone else have any interesting Pottery finds to share?

Hi Folks

I have attached a couple of photos of a large (8 + inches tall) Deichmann pottey bird - this piece was made by Erica Deichmann (she signed and dated it) in 1946. The bird is very heavy likely 3-4 pounds! I discovered some photos of the Deichmann's and among them was the one I have attached of them - and when you look on the shelf beside Erica where their pottery is displayed - there is a very similar bird.

I thought that was interesting to see as a collector - she obviously made more than I of this model!

I would love to see any other Deichmann or Canadian Pottery photos that anyone else has to share!

Hi there

Great question. I have seen 25-30 of them over the years here and there at antique shows. As a collector I look for them.

As to how many were produced - excellent question - anyone have any idea? They were made for 24th of June 1880 - so it could not have been that many. I have heard 4000 at some point but - I have never seen this documented anywhere. Whatever the number over the last 130 years quite a few must have been broken etc........it is amazing that most that you see are in pristine condition so most who had them must have put them on a shelf and not used them.

Does anyone have any idea how many were produced?

I confirmed the dates for you for Manhattan glass - 1938-1943 by the Anchor Hocking co in the US. Manhattan is a very popular pattern in Depression Glass!

Always happy to help!

I have attached some up close - detail of the Beaver Band Goblet. To me - as a collector, what is truly unique about this piece unlike any other piece is that it was made for a very specific event, it is dated, and unlike many other pieces which were produced for years - this piece was made for one day and never again. To me it is not only my favorite goblet - but my favorite piece of glass!

I hope you enjoy these close up photos.

Hi there

I love the piece with the fish! This looks like one of their earlier pieces when they worked in Dieppe NB - which is before the moved to Lantz NS (where they did the majority of their work).

I believe 237 is the number of different Mushroom models that they produced.

And I agree - the cat was found on a table at the Rose Bowl flea market - and then came back to me in Canada!

Best regards,

Deichmann

Hi Jujubes

This pattern is called Manhattan. It is American made and circa late 1930's. The piece comes in several different pieces (plates, candle holders, bowls, tumblers and although you see the majority of the pieces in clear, it also comes in pink.

I hope this helps,
Deichmann

Hi AntiqueLover

The Lorenzen mushrooms - were produced with the holes as flower frogs until around 1970. After this period - they had a solid base. The daughter of the Ernst and Alma Lorenzen continued to produce the mushrooms until recent years. The flower frog examples tend to have a bit more attention to detail and - because they are definitely old - they to me are more desirable.

Thanks for your comments on the Cat as well. When I bought it online (I rescued it from California) the person had great photos - but I did not realize how big it was - when I opened the box and it was 9 inches tall I was surprised at how big it was. Now that I have it - I wish I had also purchased one of the blue ones when I had the chance.

Best regards,
Deichmann

Here is a photo of a Deichmann Vase - it is snow white which is unusual for the Deichmanns - and has a raised fish detail on it. It really stands out in a grouping of Deichmann pottery because it is white.
