Hi there....I had heard at one point 1000 were produced, but there are a lot of these out there still and many have been broken over the period between 1880 and now - so I think production must have been much more than 1000 originally.

Hi there - yes I have both versions. The one in the photo is the open version - it also comes in a covered version with an ground stopper - they ground the inside of the syrup to make the lid fit. I have both versions. Nice find. Deichmann

"At the crossroads of art and industry, the Glass cycles exhibit traces the history of glass in Montréal, from the time of handcrafted objects to the industrial production that started in the 19th century. Since that time, glass objects have invaded our daily lives. Precious or common-place, they can be re-used or recycled at the end of their life, and serve yet again. The exhibit focuses on glass, the glass industry and glass recycling, through the history of the plant, which has been located, since 1905, on land that formerly belonged to Maison Saint-Gabriel, in Pointe-Saint-Charles, and is now owned by O-I (Owens-Illinois), the largest producer of glass in the world."
