Here are a couple of examples of Lorenzen pottery. The Lorenzens are most famous for their ceramic mushrooms (the frogs with the holes being the older ones and the most desirable) - but they did other pottery as well. The bowl in the photos has a face repeated 6 times on the side. The cat is a figural piece and stands 9 inches tall - I have seen this cat on 3 other occassions but always in blue.

Hello Deichmann,

I never saw this cat before, it's wonderful for Lorenzen. Do you know at what date the holes dissapeared from their ceramic mushrooms?

Kind Regards
AntiqueLover

Hi AntiqueLover

The Lorenzen mushrooms - were produced with the holes as flower frogs until around 1970. After this period - they had a solid base. The daughter of the Ernst and Alma Lorenzen continued to produce the mushrooms until recent years. The flower frog examples tend to have a bit more attention to detail and - because they are definitely old - they to me are more desirable.

Thanks for your comments on the Cat as well. When I bought it online (I rescued it from California) the person had great photos - but I did not realize how big it was - when I opened the box and it was 9 inches tall I was surprised at how big it was. Now that I have it - I wish I had also purchased one of the blue ones when I had the chance.

Best regards,
Deichmann

Hello Deichmann,

California is a strange place for a Lorenzen cat.

Do you know how many different mushroom models they produced?

Have a nice day,
AntiqueLover

PS That’s a nice little Lorenzen vase with a fish

Hi there

I love the piece with the fish! This looks like one of their earlier pieces when they worked in Dieppe NB - which is before the moved to Lantz NS (where they did the majority of their work).

I believe 237 is the number of different Mushroom models that they produced.

And I agree - the cat was found on a table at the Rose Bowl flea market - and then came back to me in Canada!

Best regards,

Deichmann
